We take a holistic approach to design. Projects range from ground-up builds or full renovations to the redesign of an existing home. While our primary focus is interior spaces, we also consult on architecture, exteriors, and landscape, so that every part of a project benefits from a unifying vision.
Design philosophy
We believe interiors should reflect their inhabitants and put them at ease. We focus on understanding how our clients would like to live, and transform their houses into sanctuaries which exude warmth for the family and friends who gather there.
That warmth comes from layout, materiality, scale and contrast, the marriage of old and new. It also comes from attention to the smallest of details, like the wattage of a dimmer in a dining room.
Leaf's influences are eclectic, but she always returns to materials from the natural world: textiles, metal, glass and wood.
Design process
We take on a small number of projects at a time so that Leaf can be closely involved with the builders or architects from the the earliest stage of a project, while there is still time to move a window or change a ceiling height.
We regularly work all over the United States. Typically, our projects involve designing the entire home. Work of this kind depends on long-standing relationships across our industry — the builders, craftspeople, and vendors who let us deliver a project that is as well managed as it is well designed.
